Another day, another hack. Vodafone’s confirmed that cyber-villains have been trying to get their hands on customers’ names, phone numbers and credit card details, and it says that 1,800 accounts have been accessed.
The mobile operator says it detected suspicious behaviour last week but is keen to stress that the hackers didn’t manage to penetrate its systems. Instead, they appear to have been testing email addresses and passwords that have been leaked in previous breaches, successfully snaring anybody who's still using the same login credentials.
The company admits there's every chance that customer names and numbers have been picked up by hackers, but says that only the last four digits of card numbers have been accessed. Any customers who have been affected are being contacted by Vodafone, which has already blocked any compromised accounts.
